The Tale of Despereaux (DiCamillo)

This was a read aloud for our family, and I admit I edited a few pieces of seemingly unnecessary harshness and some grim sections. I was surprised at how serious this book was. Whoever adapted it for the film did a great job. There are echoes of Dickens here (the thread). Overall, the structure is pretty challenging (again, kudos to those who adapted it), but our children (8 and 6) got it. So, it’s a good read aloud if you are adept at reading ahead as you read aloud.
