Clements’ Frindle is a wonderful book, and our daughter raved about this one, so we decided to read it together as a family. And now I have another favorite Frindle book. The premise is a bit iffy, but the follow through is excellent. Afghanistan is depicted fairly, I think, and Abby learns from her project in an eloquent and moving way. Though the ending takes a bit too long, it definitely speaks to the urgent need for all of us to expand our horizons, if not by travel then by the kind of exchange Clements depicts here. Clements’ protagonist is honest and credible and her voice is convincing. This is a real masterpiece.
