Teachers as Cultural Workers: Letters to Those Who Dare Teach (Freire)

10 letters and some last words from this remarkable thinker and educator in this, his last book. Though the prose remains challenging in places, the key ideas are remarkably clear and urgent. The fourth letter, “On the Indispensable Qualities of Progressive Teachers for Their Better Performance,” should be required reading for all current teachers and teachers-in-training. It is a call to “armed love,” it is a call for impatient patience, it is a call for courage, tolerance and the “joy of living.”

Here’s a kind of summary –

This one will take a place of pride on my shelf. I have a feeling the book, and the 4th letter in particular, will be one I turn to many times.
