Incarnadine (Szybist)

I am not sure whether it was the religious motif or that the writing – even the concrete poems – seemed just too calculated, but this collection just didn’t work for me. I just couldn’t hear it, if that makes any sense. Of course, there are some lines (from “Hail”) –

Here I am, / having bathed carefully in the syllables / of your name

and poems, “Here, There are Blueberries” that stand out.

Overall, though, I just can’t recommend this one.
